Scott L. Rubin, Beta Psi (American University) 1986
He is celebrating his 22nd anniversary with his wife, Helene Rubin.
He was also recently named Senior Vice President of Affiliate Relations for Backtrax Radio Networks, home of the nationally syndicated Kid Kelly Daily Show and the award-winning Backtrax USA with Kid Kelly.
Leonard A. Sands, Betz Xi (Brooklyn College) 1968
He is a longtime Criminal Defense Attorney based in Miami, Florida. He was recently voted the 2020 recipient of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers – Miami Chapter’s ‘Founders Award.’ The award is the highest honor given by the organization. It is given in recognition of a lifetime commitment to preserving all citizens’ constitutional rights and for manifesting the very best principles for which FACDL-Miami stands — an open-hearted devotion to justice, civility, discretion, courage, respect for human dignity, and mercy.
Timothy D. Wedeen, Epsilon Phi (Brandeis University) 1988
He and his wife Christine adopted two girls, Mackenzie, 17, from China, and Tierney, 14, from Taiwan. He also opened a law firm with his wife, Wedeen & Kavanagh. They have offices in Manhattan and Tenafly, New Jersey.
Bart B. Hardwick, Eta Mu (California Polytechnic State University) 2016
He became a California licensed Professional Civil Engineer and was promoted to project manager.

He is currently Executive Director, Marketing and Product Management at AgFirst Farm Credit Bank.
Michael N. Carpenter, Gamma Beta (California State University – Northridge) 1980
He just completed his tour of duty as Area Manager for the United States Census Bureau, Census 2020.
Sebastian R. Schug, Gamma Beta (California State University – Northridge) 2020
This year, he started a publishing company, Sebastian Schug Publishing, and signed on to the state51 record label. All the while applying for his Master’s Degree in Communications and Business Administration.
Kenneth A. Brown, Lambda (Case Western Reserve University) 2005
Welcomed twins on October 16, 2020. During the summer and fall of 2020, he was commissioned to create an anti-racist dance piece for New Vision Dance Company, cast in an anti-racist presentation of short plays by Theater For All People, given directorial duties for a short play for CATCO’s Short Plays For An Anti-racist tomorrow, and wrote and performed via film an original spoken word work “Round 1”. In 2019, he was awarded the “Excellence In Choreography” award by Theatre Roundtable for work on The Color Purple with State of the Arts Productions in Columbus, Ohio.
Alan S. Hackel, Lambda (Case Western Reserve University) 1962
He retired from Auburn University – Montgomery in 2009 and serves on two boards: The Elmore County Humane Shelter and Service Dogs Alabama. He and his wife trained and certified their Borzois as therapy dogs and visit schools and nursing and retirement homes with them. After retirement, he worked for a Singapore company and served as the vice chancellor for Academic Affairs for a proprietary college that he helped start in Montgomery, Alabama.
He received an award from The River Region United Way: The Mathews-Altheimer-Smith award for outstanding service as a member and chair of the Community Council.
Richard “Rich” V. Ciancimino, Delta (Columbia University) 2000
He recently won two Emmy Awards as Executive Producer of MLB Network’s MLB Tonight during the 2020 Sports Emmy Awards. These were his 10th and 11th overall Emmy Awards.
Roger W. Burnell, Kappa (Cornell University) 1966
He is proud to announce his daughter, Lauren Gallé, has been named the Second Ranked Amateur Adult Rider in the United States in her Olympic Sport of “Three-Day Eventing.”
Stephen E. Kesselman, Kappa (Cornell University) 1978
He is excited to share that his middle son, Sam, is a member of the Cornell Class of 2022 and is currently President of the ZBT Kappa Chapter.
Marc S. Landau, Kappa (Cornell University) 1990
The challenges of COVID created record business for him and his industry. He helped families spend time together safely by assisting them to become boaters. Their improved health and happiness have been rewarding.
Mark A. Litman, Kappa (Cornell University) 1966
He is entering his 55th year in Intellectual Property Law. He has issued his 1000th U.S. Utility Patent that he wrote and prosecuted for clients and has over 15 patents of his own, two of which are in beta-stage trials. He received plaque awards for contributing to the Business Entrepreneurial program at UNLV and the Minnesota Young Inventors. He is also researching the Guinness Book of World Records about the number of Utility Patents that he has written and issued.
CPT Robert J. Burton, Delta Pi (Fairleigh Dickinson University – Metropolitan) 1997
He completed his Doctorate in Public Administration from West Chester University in 2016. He was also elected Mayor of Medford Lakes, New Jersey in 2014 and was hired as full-time Borough Manager of Medford Lakes, New Jersey in 2017.
Harry E. Carpenter, III Xi (Georgia Institute of Technology) 1974
He has two children, Everett and Meredith, and two grandchildren, Erok and Malik. His wife, Flora, was Chrismated into the Holy Orthodox Church last August. He is currently an instructor of History and Geography at Western Piedmont Community College and an adjunct instructor of Geography at Wilkes Community College. He has been a reader/rater for AP USA History for over a decade now.
Douglas (Doug) I. Ross, Beta Gamma (Indiana University Bloomington) 1981
He and his wife live in the historic district of downtown Indianapolis in a house built in 1870; it once served as Phi Kappa Psi’s national headquarters! He is also currently running the North American Artificial Intelligence practice for Capgemini, a global consulting firm with 275,000 employees.

He is living in Charlotte, North Carolina and working as a mortgage banker.

Welcomed a baby girl, Jerzy Camille Machula, into the world on October 28, 2020.
Robert I. Elan, Delta Alpha (Kent State University) 1971
As a result of Alzheimer’s Disease, he had to place his wife in a care facility. His youngest son just had his second child, a son and future ZBT named Zac. Brother Elan continues to practice law in the City and State of New York and teaches law at CUNY-Queens College as Assistant Professor of Law.

Robin S. Murray, Delta Lambda (Monmouth College) 1984
He received numerous honors on the baseball diamond in 2019 as an umpire for Little League Baseball, the Arizona Interscholastic Association, and the Pecos League of Professional Baseball.
Gilbert I. Martin, Delta (New York University) 1963
He resides in West Covina, California, and has three grown children and six grandboys ranging from age 5 to 22. He is continuing to work as a neonatologist and has had several books published over the past five years. He also received the Education Award from the Perinatal Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

He is a social worker working with at-risk youth and children with mental disabilities.

He celebrated his son’s engagement.

He is celebrating his daughter’s second birthday in December. He also recently joined the Marks JCH Community Center and opened “Upward” The COVID-19 Relief Center. As the program director, he helps people who have lost their jobs with employment and emergency financial assistance.
Theodore I. Steinman, M.D., Alpha Psi (Pennsylvania State University) 1960
Published research about effective treatment of COVID-19 infections with Vitamin B3. He was awarded Best Doctors in America – Woodward/White Publishers (every year 1992- present); Top Nephrologists in America – Marquis Publications (every year 1996 -present); Lifetime Achievement Award in Education – 2016, International Society of Nephrology Alumni Fellow of the Year (1996) – Penn State University National Physician of the Year (2000).
Syrus W. Fletcher, Alpha Alpha (Purdue University) 2019
He purchased and renovated a home in Carmel, Indiana, in 2020. He also started a new role as a regional sales rep for Helmer Scientific in March, selling medical-grade vaccine storage and blood bank equipment.

He retired as U.S. Army Colonel. Appointed Brigadier General under Federal law pertaining only to retired officers of D.C. National Guard.
Steven J. Levine, Alpha Epsilon (Syracuse University) 1964
His photographs have been exhibited at Beaux-Arts Regional Exhibition in Bronxville, New York, Blue Door Art Center in Yonkers, New York, Dallas Metro Arts Contemporary in Plano, Texas Galesburg Civic Art Center in Galesburg, Illinois. He also has his 50th anniversary of practicing law.

He welcomed his great-grandson, Noah Daniel Gasior, on December 1, 2020.
William (Billy) A. Gorson, Alpha Beta (Temple University) 1971
His wife Barbara, who he met at a mixer at the Fraternity, has passed away. Brother Gorson also retired from hosting his talk show.
Brian A. Hoffman, Sigma (Tulane University) 2009
He got married in October to his wife, Amanda. He also began working for the Zeta Beta Tau Foundation.
Anthony J. Nicholson, Sigma (Tulane University) 1960
He is the benefactor of the Nicholson School of Communication and Media and the Nicholson Fieldhouse, work out for the football team at the University of Central Florida, and The Nicholson Center at Advent Health Hospital in Celebration, Florida. He is currently working on robotic medical software with Mimic out of Seattle and stockholder. He also earned a doctorate from the University of Central Florida in 2019.
Adam C. Saper, Sigma (Tulane University) 2008
He continues as a Felony Trial Attorney with the Miami Dade Public Defender’s Office. He was recognized by the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, Miami Chapter, with the Gregg Wenzel Outstanding Young Lawyer Award for 2019-2020, achieved Board Certification as an Expert in Criminal Trial Law, a distinction held by less than 10% of attorneys in Florida.

He is approaching his 23rd anniversary of working for ZBT. He also received the 2020 William D. Jenkins Award For Outstanding Foundation Professional from the Foundation for Fraternal Excellence. In October 2020, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant, medical services corps in the Alabama Army National Guard, and served in the 127th Medical Company in Mobile, Alabama.

He began a new position with Directions Behavioral Health Center in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, as a Chemical Dependency Therapist.
Kaikea J. Roe, Gamma Xi (University of California – Santa Barbara) 2019
He relocated with his girlfriend to his home state of Hawaii and lives in a beach house on Oahu’s north shore.
Benjamin E. Novogroski, Delta Iota (University of Central Florida) 2009He became engaged this past fall and began working as a Prosecuting Attorney at the Vermont Office of Professional Regulation.
Richard (Dick) Hamlish, Alpha Beta (University of Chicago) 1954
He retired after many years of practicing law. He received pro bono lawyer of the year in California.
Marshall Ottenfeld, Mu (University of Chicago) 1959
He retired after decades as a marketing research consultant – Managing Partner of M&D Research Associates. He is on the faculty of Heller College of Business, Roosevelt University, Chicago, and an author or co-author of 35+ journal articles.
Nathan “Nate” A. Cohen, Beta Alpha Theta (University of Colorado Boulder) 2007
He and his wife Rachel welcomed their second child, Joey, on May 4, 2020. He is still enjoying the world of professional fundraising and proudly representing Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a world-renowned academic medical center.

He retired from teaching at the University of Rochester, and his new book, Relentless: The Forensics of Mobsters’ Business Practices, is being released on January 12 and is available at Amazon. He also received the American Accounting Association’s Lifetime Achievement Award from the Financial Accounting and Reporting Section.

Jordan M. Fishfeld, Alpha Zeta (University of Florida) 2006
He is the Executive Vice President of a Cannabis Farm based in Africa. The company sold its first batch of 250kgs to Israel, marking a milestone of the largest legal shipment of cannabis ever out of Africa.

After enduring more than nine months of the pandemic, he is particularly grateful that he and his wife, along with several other couples, had the opportunity to travel to Southeast Asia in January/February.

Strictly stayed at home for the last seven months, yet still manages commercial properties at 95% leased.
Robert B. Shaftel, Beta Zeta (University of Maryland – College Park) 1962
He retired from the insurance brokerage and risk management business after 58 years. He also stepped down as a trustee of The Sheppard Pratt Hospital System after 28 years of service and remained an honorary trustee of The University System.

He recently celebrated his first anniversary at Fidelity Investments as a Financial Consultant, continuing his 18-year journey in the markets and wealth management industries.
Jerome Cohen, Alpha Omega (University of Miami) 1951
He regretfully shares the passing of Don Mayerson, his long term business partner. After the armed service, Don and Brother Cohen started at The U in September 1946. They met when both pledged the ZBT new colony, Alpha Omega, and became brothers in 1947.

Completed his second two-year term as International President of Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity and now serves as Chairman of the Fraternity’s Corporate Governance Committee. He also completed his term as President of the Miami Chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates.

He now resides in independent living in Maplewood, New Jersey, where he is the resident trustee.
Derrick (Rick) A. Nowlin, Beta Phi (University of Pittsburgh) 1984
He married Debra Holz on September 19, 2020 at Allegheny Center Alliance Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Jay Feldman, Rho (University of Richmond) 1970
He is five years into retirement from successful law practice and coming up on 50 years of marriage.
Arthur Brief, Alpha Nu (University of Tennessee – Knoxville) 1969
He retired as a Presidential Professor Emeritus from the University of Utah after being on the faculty of Iowa, NYU, Tulane, and as a visiting research professor at HBS.
Gerald (Jerry) C. Cohn, Alpha Mu (University of Washington) 1951
He celebrated his 93rd birthday with a golf score of 92. He is also still enjoying some downhill skiing.

He is a published author of multiple novels and short stories.
Michael D. Davidson, Pi (University of Wisconsin Madison) 1963
His late wife Jacki, who he pinned, passed last November. He is blessed to have met a wonderful lady who now lives under quarantine in an assisted living facility. Brother Davidson was a cellist in the New Orleans and Kansas City Philharmonics and played in Carnegie Hall with both orchestras.
Earl S. Sadowsky, Alpha Nu (University of Wisconsin – Milwaukee) 1969
He is currently working remotely for Northwestern Mutual.
Cole Kniatt, Delta Xi (Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University) 2020
He has just finished his first semester of teaching in Pueblo, Colorado, where he is a Teach for America corps member and a Building Leadership Team member. He also coached his school’s varsity softball team, head J.V. basketball coach at Centennial High School, and will be an assistant baseball coach at Centennial High School.
Curtis L. Putnam, Gamma Iota (Western Michigan University) 1971
He was married in September 2020 and serves as Chair of the Economic Development Authority of Fluvanna County.
Seth D. Feldman, Beta Alpha Chi (York College of Pennsylvania) 1991
He was recently awarded his Ed.D. from Oakland City University (Oakland City, Indiana) in May 2020 and was awarded a post-doc fellowship at the University of Southern California. Brother Feldman was also promoted to Superintendent of Schools at the Bay Area Technology Schools, Oakland, California. He was also appointed to the position of Professor at Oakland City University in their M.A. and EdD programs.
Dennis J. Foreman, Beta Upsilon (Youngstown State University) 1967
He spent 30 years working at IBM (1967-1997). He also taught at Binghamton University from 1984-2020 (part-time 1984-94). He received his Ph.D. in computer science from Binghamton University in 2002 and retired from teaching in 2020. He serves as Executive Trustee and faculty advisor to the ZBT chapter at Binghamton University.
Arthur Varie, Beta Upsilon (Youngstown State University) 1968
He received a new kidney in January 2020 from a 35-year-old man. He has been retired for nine years from Kent State and as a clinical counselor.
