Issue: Fall 2023
The Zeta Beta Tau Foundation is pleased to announce the appointment of John D. Stemen, Esq., Omicron (Tufts University) 1999, as Chief Executive Officer.
Brother Stemen brings over 25 years of Fraternity involvement to the organization. Brother Stemen began his service to ZBT as president of Omicron Chapter while also serving as Secretary of the Tufts University IFC. John continued his involvement upon graduation, serving as a Chapter & Expansion Consultant for the Fraternity. Following his time on staff, he continued his engagement with and dedication to the Fraternity in several volunteer capacities including Chapter Advisor, Supreme Councilor and most recently as a member of the Zeta Beta Tau Foundation’s Board of Directors.
Brother Stemen graduated with a Juris Doctor from the University of Florida, Levin College of Law, in 2006. He was a practicing attorney for several years before moving to the U.S. Department of State, Diplomatic Security Service and then the Naval Criminal Investigative Service. John most recently worked for Secure Community Network, serving as the Director of Safety and Security at Hillel International, the largest Jewish student nonprofit organization in the world.
“We are very excited to welcome John as the CEO of the Zeta Beta Tau Foundation. John brings the energy, enthusiasm and passion for ZBT that we need to lead us into the next chapter of the Foundation. John, like outgoing CEO Faron A. Lewitt, Psi (University of Alabama) 1997, is another example of the Fraternity developing leaders right out of college who go on to serve our Brotherhood professionally. I’ve known John since he was a young Fraternity staff member and look forward to partnering with him while President of the Foundation. John is the right choice for this moment in the Zeta Beta Tau Foundation,” said Zeta Beta Tau Foundation President Bret W. Hrbek, Delta Xi (Virginia Tech) 1996.
John will be responsible for cultivating, sustaining and expanding donor participation to support the Foundation’s goal of advancing men’s lives through the power of philanthropy. With a comprehensive development program, he will lead a team to execute the Foundation’s strategic plan, reporting to the Board of Directors.
Brother Stemen said, “I am honored and excited to join the staff of the Zeta Beta Tau Foundation. I look forward to engaging with the collegiate and alumni brothers of ZBT and our partners to grow the Foundation, support the Fraternity, and better the world.”
