From the International President: ‘The end of ‘Nationals’’
As a long-time Chapter Advisor, I have grown used to hearing our Supreme Council, the Zeta Beta Tau Foundation Board and the National Permanent Endowment Fund (N.P.E.F.), as well as, our dedicated staff in Indianapolis referred to as “Nationals.” Besides the inherent grammatical problem and the fact that we are an international fraternity, the term also has a negative connotation. The time has come for that term to be cast aside.
We are all brothers of Zeta Beta Tau
Our Fraternity is different than other fraternities. In addition to our historical differences, we were the first to legislate an end to a two-tiered membership. More relevant to this discussion is that our Fraternity does not end upon graduation from our college or university. Our Fraternity membership is for a lifetime.
As such, we need to stop referring to “undergraduates” and “alumni.” Everyone who reads this is a brother of Zeta Beta Tau. Each of us is working to make this the greatest fraternity. The directors of the Supreme Council, Foundation Board and the N.P.E.F. dedicate their time, treasure and talent to insure that our Fraternity is the best we can be.
Recognized for our hard work and dedication
All of our efforts would go for naught without the hard work and dedication of each of our staff members, and their efforts have not gone unrecognized. Our Words to Action program to help fight anti-Semitism done in conjunction with our Greek partners — Alpha Epsilon Phi, Sigma Alpha Mu and Sigma Delta Tau — along with the Anti-Defamation League won the 2016 Laurel Wreath Award from the North-American Interfraternity Conference.
This is not the first time that we have been recognized for our efforts. We have been similarly recognized for our Safe Smart Dating program (in conjunction with Sigma Delta Tau and Jewish Women International); as well as for our COMPASS (ZBT’s cutting edge online learning community).
When our programming is rightfully recognized as being the best in the fraternity world, we all shine. When our chapters are recognized as being the best on their campus, we all should celebrate. We all are in this together, so let’s stop creating artificial barriers. No more talking about Nationals — unless we are discussing baseball.

From the Fraternity Executive Director: Welcome to the new Digital Deltan
Dear brothers and friends,
Welcome to the newly re-designed Digital Deltan! I hope you will enjoy its mobile friendliness as well as the new format that we hope will further engage our readers.
The fall, 2016 semester has been a busy one as we continue to implement our Brotherhood for a Lifetime Strategic Plan. Recruitment is well underway for many chapters and colonies and several groups are reporting record numbers. Of course, once bids are accepted we must continue to work closely with our chapters on retaining our brothers by providing them a positive fraternity experience. Our undergraduate experience team at ZBT International Headquarters works closely with our chapters and all of our programs to enhance the experience our brothers have on their campuses.
We also continue to grow our alumni programming. We’ve introduced an alumni-undergraduate mentor program in certain parts of the country, continue to support area alumni associations and have appointed many new chapter mentors this year working with our chapters in the areas of recruitment, risk management, finances, Jewish programming and more. In addition we’ve hired a new Director of Alumni Engagement to lead the department, Patrick M. Gleason.

From the Foundation Executive Director: Truly a lifetime experience
For some our Zeta Beta Tau Brotherhood truly is a lifetime experience.
At the Psi Chapter Centennial (March 5, 2016) Owen W. Aronov, Psi (University of Alabama) ’74, spoke on behalf of his family as his father, Aaron M. Aronov, Pi-KN (University of Alabama) ’42, was posthumously inducted into the inaugural class of the ZBT Psi Chapter Hall of Fame. Along with Jake F. Aronov, Psi (University of Alabama) ’70, they share two generations of Brotherhood in Zeta Beta Tau.
At the 95th birthday (April 27, 2016) celebration of Past ZBT International President Richard S. Simon, Phi (University of Michigan) ’43, Brother Simon spoke about his life and those with whom he has shared it. He warmly talked about his Fraternity experience in general and his brothers in particular. Brother Simon’s son, and two grandsons are both brothers of Zeta Beta Tau. Three generations of Brotherhood in Zeta Beta Tau.
The Brotherhood for a Lifetime experience in Zeta Beta Tau is that much more meaningful when shared with family…one generation to the next. If you have a ZBT family, please let me know.
It won’t be long (and we are excited for the day) when we celebrate a family with four generations of Zeta Beta Tau Brotherhood. How special for our Fraternity and for each of us.
Zeta Beta Tau is bigger and stronger than any of us individually and together we are an organization with a meaningful history, a bright future and countless opportunities. It is the opportunity before us which enables us to set goals and work toward accomplishing them. Thank you for the part you play in our joint success.
