First-time Brummer champs: UNCC

Zeta Beta Tau has many avenues for celebrating excellence and remarkable achievements of our brothers and chapters, but no honor rises to the level of the Brummer Cup for most outstanding chapter in the Fraternity, the time-honored, respected and coveted traditional celebration of chapter overall success.

The 2024 winning Chapter is “on fire.”

Starting in 2022, leaders stepped up and made a dedicated effort to improve all aspects of their brotherhood, from recruitment to operations to campus relationships to education and brotherhood bond. This chapter has a big, bold vision and commitment from every single brother. And this fire kindled the Chapter’s first-ever Brummer Cup win.

“This award illustrates the commitment and determination that comes from each and every one of our brothers who continuously put the Eta Xi Chapter’s best interests above their own,” the Chapter said in a statement.

The UNCC Chapter also worked hard on a housing success story, getting all the required pieces in order to obtain official campus housing at the start of Fall 2024.

Eta Xi follows the Standards of Excellence accreditation program provided plans, but make the experience their own, with supplementary education that they find valuable and additional brotherhood opportunities. This group is well-represented consistently at ZBT international programs.

For a commuter school with less than .001% of the undergraduate population being Jewish, the Chapter manages to have great heritage programming and service activities.

Eta Xi has grown by about a third in two years’ time and has many individual brothers who are leaders in student government and on the Interfraternity Council. They have a great reputation in the community and earned several campus awards in 2024, including one for risk prevention and wellness. This year, they also started a new major philanthropy event and raised more than $6,000 for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals overall.

This Chapter values Brotherly Love so strongly that they support other chapters in the area regularly, such as attending recruitment events at other campuses and providing support for Initiations at new Prospective Chapters.

“This victory is a collective win,” Brother James Citrin, UNCC’s IFC Vice President and Student Body Vice President, told Inside UNC Charlotte. The news center shared a great profile of Brother Citrin and the chapter that you can read here.

The Chapter strongly represents overall fraternal values and responsibilities, and demonstrates excellence in chapter operations, academics, service and interfraternalism.

“The Eta Xi Chapter has distinguished itself as a true leader on campus and within ZBT,” ZBT Chief Executive Officer Libby Anderson said. “Their success is proof that every brother in the Chapter plays a role in moving the group forward. We are thrilled for this chapter to earn its first Brummer Cup.”
